This is one of the saddest stories I’ve ever had to write. Joey Feek of husband and wife duo, Joey + Rory, is losing her battle to cancer.
In June 2014, Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She underwent surgery and went in recovery, but this year the cancer returned and it was very aggressive. Joey was receiving treatment at Cancer Treatment Center of America in Atlanta.
In October, doctors ordered a CT for Joey. They were checking to see how the cancer had responded to the first round of treatment and if it had returned. Unfortunately, it did and tumors had spread to other parts of her abdomen. The decision was made at that time to stop treatment and return home.
Joey has entered hospice care and is trying to stay as comfortable as possible at home. She is saying goodbye to her daughters and trying to spend as much time with Indiana, the couple’s 1 year old daughter.

I’m crying as I write this piece about the couple.
I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Joey + Rory back in 2009 at the ACM awards in Las Vegas. They were newcomers that year and very nice. They were both very sweet and just down to earth people. I’ve always thought it was great that they were able to do what they love, and do it together everyday.
Even though I don’t personally know Joey and Rory, I cry because I can’t imagine what they are going through. I don’t have any children, but thought of saying goodbye to my baby daughter and her growing up only to know me in pictures and things that I recorded for her is heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how Rory is going to deal with losing his lovely wife and raising 3 daughters on his own.
This is just so sad in so many ways. Why does cancer have take a mother from her children? Why does cancer have to take a wife from her husband? Why does it have to take someone some so young? Why does it have to take anyone at all?
