Taylor Swift’s new song ‘Shake it Off’ may not be a country song, but it’s certainly a darn good one. This catchy tune has even sparked some controversy that the video is racist. We’ll let you watch and decide.
Here’s the lowdown. A rapper named Earl Sweatshirt is claiming that Taylor’s is racist saying that she is ‘perpetuating black stereotypes to the same demographic of white girls who hide their prejudice by proclaiming their love of the culture’.
In the video Taylor is dancing in various styles and one of them has her twerking, just like you might see in the new Nicki Minaj “Anaconda” video. Now, rapper Earl Sweatshirt has admitted that he hadn’t actually seen the Taylor video yet. So I’m not totally sure how he can claim that it’s racist.
Here’s the video. Take the poll below to give you thoughts. I have a few of my own.
My personal thought is, how is it racist for Taylor to have girls booty shaking in her video? Or why is Taylor “perpetuating a stereotype” by having them dance? Let’s be honest, there’s tons of rap videos that have twerking in them. If they don’t like the stereotype maybe they should get more original and have a video filled with something else other than big booty women dancing around and making it clap without their hands.
